When I get back to the bus, Clara and Mystery are bursting to tell me about the man law enforcement lead from the building in handcuffs. Clara points out that she saw our handsome friend, Sheriff Mack. She’s never letting this go.

“The man they arrested was Dustin Holmes, the guy I was here to question,” I tell them.

“They already arrested him for murder?” Clara asks. “That was easy. Now you’re off the hook!”

“They arrested him for failing to pay his child support, not murder,” I tell her, shaking my head.

“Child support?” she yelps. “But you said he was rich!”

“He is, so I don’t know what the problem is.”

“Did you ask him where he was when Mr. Beasley was killed?” Mystery asks.

“I did, and he said he was at his grandmother’s funeral.”

“Oh gosh, that’s too bad. Still, he should pay his child support,” Clara points out. “Where to next? Can we go somewhere else? We don’t have to go home yet, do we?”

“Now that you mention it, I’m craving a chocolate mint cupcake,” I tell her.

“Yay! We’re going to the bakery!” she cheers.

This time there’s a parking spot directly in front of Sol Conceptions that I slide right into. Walking into Juliet's bakery, I accidentally overhear what I’m sure are two people discussing the possessed killer doll on the loose in Glenwood.

I guess that’s better than them whispering about how I’m a suspect, but I realize what an uphill battle it will be to discover the real killer.

“Holly!” Juliet shouts as I walk in the door.

“Hi Juliet! I’m craving a mint chocolate cupcake. Do you have any?”

“I made some fresh this morning!” she says. “How goes the investigation?”

“I just watched Dustin Holmes get arrested, if that’s any indication,” I sigh.

“Dustin killed Mr. Beasley?” she asks.

“No, unfortunately, that’s what I thought at first, too. Well, actually, he may have killed him. I don’t know. He has an alibi, though.”

“But they still arrested him for murder?” she presses.

“No, they arrested him for failure to pay child support.”

“Seriously? But he’s rich!”

“I know!” I throw my hands in the air.

“What a jerk,” she announces.

“Yep. You’ll never believe this. I just heard the couple outside talking about a possessed doll!”

“Oh Miss Holly, the whole town has been talking about it. There are two camps. The part that thinks you killed him and the part that makes up even wilder stories than that involving poltergeist-possessed dolls. You won’t believe the number of people who are insisting they saw the doll, or their neighbor’s cousin’s dentist saw the doll running down the street, antagonizing a squirrel, or stealing grapes at the grocery store.”

“This town has quite the imagination, doesn’t it?” I acknowledge.

“Wendy filled me in on what happened to you last night on Red Mountain. Are you sure you’re okay?”

“I’m fine.” I wave my hand dismissively. “Tom put a new bolt on this morning, so I don’t have to worry about that again. Thanks for telling the Sheriff’s Department where to find me, by the way.”

“You have to know we were so worried!” she exclaims.
